Kartell was founded in Milan in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli and architect Anna Castelli Ferrieri. This is one of the first factories in Europe that uses plastic materials in the production of designer furniture and accessories for home and office spaces.
Initially, in the years of the post-war shortage, the company relied on the manufacture of simple household items for the home and car accessories. And in 1963, the production was expanded and began to produce the first furniture made of plastic.
The year 1988 was decisive for Kartell – it was then that the company was bought out by Claudio Luti, Castelli's son-in-law. He immediately began to attract famous designers and architects to cooperate, such as Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, Antonio Citterio, Ferruccio Laviani, Piero Lissoni, Patricia Urquiola, Mario Bellini, Alberto Meda and others. Many of them later told in interviews with various publishers that they were able to realize their most daring projects and developments thanks to collaboration with the Italian factory. Most of the Cartel furniture items have become iconic brand symbols that are now recognizable on all continents.
In 1999, Kartell became the first company in the world to use polycarbonate in the production of home furniture. Technologists and engineers in production are constantly looking for new ways to use plastic, improving its properties. They have been studying this material for several decades in order to eventually create advanced pieces of furniture with the best operational qualities. And in 2021, collections made of recycled plastic appeared in the assortment.
Plastics have great advantages over glass and other brittle masses. However, lamps and dishes at first glance cannot be distinguished from crystal products – they also beautifully refract light, but are safer. They are light in weight and do not break into many pieces if they are accidentally dropped.
In our online store you will also find the famous Ghost transparent chairs and stools, which have become a real bestseller due to their elegant simplicity and lightness. Like other plastic furniture of the manufacturer, they have improved characteristics, thanks to which they can be used even outdoors. Under the influence of ultraviolet rays and high temperatures, they do not emit toxins and the smell of plastic. The smooth painted surface does not fade in the sun and does not wear out over time.
Prices for Kartell furniture depend on the configuration of the product, the color of the case and other parameters. You can order many models of tables and seats in different sizes. For sofas and armchairs, it is possible to choose any material and shade of upholstery from the catalog. In the showroom of designer furniture in Moscow you will see the most popular pieces of furniture from the Italian factory in ready-made interiors. They are in demand among restaurateurs and hotel business owners due to their low cost and good durability.
> Over its long history, Kartell has been repeatedly awarded prestigious awards and prizes. Among them are 9 Compassi d'Oro, which are also sometimes referred to as the "design Nobel". Founded in 1999, the Kartell Museum functions to this day, promoting the culture of industrial design.
