How the Artemide brand gives humanity a bright future
For more than 60 years, the Italian brand Artemide has remained one of the leaders in the lighting equipment market. We tell the history of the company and admire the inventions, many of which have become icons of current design and part of high art.
How it all started
The company was born in 1959 on the outskirts of Milan, where inventor Sergio Mazzoi, together with aerospace engineer Ernesto Gismondi, launched the production of the Alfa lamp, which became commercially successful as much as it was necessary for designers to be able to continue the business.
8 years later, the first great success of Artemide followed – the Eclisse lamp, created by Vico Magistretti and simulating a lunar eclipse thanks to a design of three hemispheres and a rotating diffuser. The invention was almost immediately marked by the main award in the world of Italian architecture - the Compasso d'Oro.
In the 1970s, Artemis lamps became so popular that the first lamp with a halogen light source Tizio gained countless imitators. The company spent 149 million lira to destroy pirated copies.
In 1987, the brand's designers were again awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award, this time for the bestseller Tolomeo, which appeared in every office. Artemide's triumphal march across countries and continents has begun.
Today, the brand actively continues to develop innovative products. For example, it promotes data management infrastructure using light, as well as a dialogue between light technologies and the environment to create modern light landscapes. The Artemide mobile application simplifies the communication of a person and lighting devices.
Cooperation with famous designers, the opening of a research center and 55 salons in major cities of the world bring even greater popularity to the brand. Lamps from Artemide can be purchased in 98 countries.
Artemide proves its commitment to the slogan "Think green" in tandem with another motto "Light for Man" by numerous social projects, including an agreement with the UN and support for the young generation of designers, architects and engineers who distinguished themselves with breakthrough ideas. The brand is aimed at developing LED lamps that consume less energy and are less toxic. With all the desire to comply with the principles of corporate social responsibility, sacrificing a beautiful and functional design is not in the rules of the company.

Spectral invites you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a techno disco, which consists of LEDs that create unique iridescences of color with the help of light waves. The lamp is suitable for people with retinal atrophy due to the use of blue-violet waves of more than 470 nm. If you dream of a concise solution, the Nothing series, almost imperceptible, but performing its functions 100%, will best cope with the task.
